Murmuration

I visited Ibsley near Blashford Lakes in Hampshire on Sunday with my dear friend Amanda to watch one of my favourite natural spectacles, a starling murmuration. We were treated to a breath taking display and the exhileration of small groups of birds flying just over our heads to join the large murmuration which was dancing in the sky above the treeline in front of us. The sound of thousands of wings beating in the sky was joined by the calls of the waterfowl on the lakes below us and the eveing songs of songbirds going to roost in the hedgerows.
